About Permanent Make-Up

Fine Ink & Beauty is a permanent make-up studio that specializes in powder ombre brows, lip blush, and eyeliner.  Permanent Make-Up (PMU) is not a new concept as it is believed to have originated in the 1900’s where pigment was tattooed onto cheeks to give ladies a pink complexion.  Beauty and fashion trends have changed consistently through time from thick, bold brows of the Ancient Egyptians, to over plucked brows seen in the 1920’s.  In the recent years, the trend for fuller brows have made it difficult for those with over plucked brows or those with naturally sparse brows to achieve.  The interests for permanent cosmetic tattooing began.

Body tattooing has been dated back since historic times discovered on ancient mummies.  The idea of using body tattooing techniques for permanent cosmetic solutions blossomed in the 80’s-90’s in hopes to improve sparse, light-haired, and nonexistent brows.  It was quickly discovered that body tattooing techniques for cosmetic purposes did not look natural and did not achieve the desired look.  As PMU became more popular in the past decade, new techniques were developed, new pigments designed specifically for cosmetic tattooing were formulated, and new tools for PMU emerged.  With new tools and new techniques,  PMU artists were able to offer clients the ideal “make-up” look they preferred.

PMU is a cosmetic tattooing technique that is not like traditional tattooing.  In traditional body art tattooing, pigment is implanted in the deeper dermis layer of the skin, creating that bold and intense look typically seen with body art tattoos.  Instead, PMU places ink in between the epidermis and upper dermis layer of the skin, not as deep as traditional body art tattoos, in order to give that soft "make-up look."  Due to the ink placement and techniques used to offer that more desired "make-up and natural look," PMU procedures tend to fade quicker over-time compared to traditional body tattoos.  As a result, PMU procedures will need to be freshened up routinely to enhance the pigment and remap shapes if needed.  During treatment, topical anesthetic is always used and since pigment is not placed into the deeper dermis layer like traditional body art tattoos, clients lay comfortably in the chair.

Are you ready to wake up with little to no morning makeup routine?  Are you tired of make-up smearing or disappearing?  Then PMU is the right investment for you!
